Deputy Communications Manager for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Sheikh Tophic, has criticised the beneficiaries of the GFA’s Bus Acquisition Strategy, labeling them as ungrateful.

In an effort to address the travel challenges faced by these clubs, the President of the GFA, Kurt Okraku handed over coaster buses to nine Division One clubs in November 2024 as part of the initiative.

However, the goodwill gesture was overshadowed by viral videos showing parts of the buses in poor condition, prompting criticism from fans who accused the FA of giving used buses to the clubs.

Although the benefiting clubs did not issue official statements, Tophic, during an interview, expressed disappointment in the clubs and criticised their lack of appreciation.

“The FA has given you boots, balls, GHS15,000 worth of fuel, and buses. You complain about torn seats; of course, the FA should have done due diligence before giving the buses out. The videos of the buses were from when they were at the workshop. They waited to release those videos after the buses were handed over,” he said.

Tophic further emphasised that the clubs’ actions undermined the efforts of the association to make their operations easier.

“The Prophet Mohammed said that he who does not appreciate the efforts of man does not appreciate the kindness of Allah,” he added.

The GFA has faced severe criticism from fans in recent months, with calls for quick fixes within the football fraternity.

Tophic however reassured that the GFA is committed to delivering the necessary solutions in the coming year.
