The Referee Manager of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Alex Kotey, has announced that the FA is set to implement the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the Ghana Premier League next season.
Alex Kotey explained that the Referees Committee has set out a three-month training period to equip referees with the technology before the implementation.
He noted that the plan, as proposed by FIFA, is to implement the technology at the beginning of the 2025/2026 GPL season.
“We want to start next season somewhere in August or September. We have two or three months to train. That is the plan from FIFA. We can do it in less than three months if our people can catch it fast,” he said.
According to multiple reports, Alex Kotey, along with FIFA-certified VAR official referee, Daniel Laryea, will lead the training sessions.
Additionally, the league’s broadcaster will receive specialised training from FIFA experts in preparation for the technology’s debut during the 2025/26 season.
