Bibiani GoldStars CEO, Akwasi Adu, has called for an end to criticisms over the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to extend the presidential term limit from two to three terms.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a significant step by approving a constitutional amendment to extend the term limits for its president from two to three terms during its 31st Ordinary Congress held at Prampram.

The Congress, mandated by Article 31(2) of the GFA Statutes (2019), is held annually before the start of the football season to review progress, present financial and activity reports, and set future strategic directions for Ghanaian football.

This annual event brought together delegates representing all 124 members of the Congress to discuss crucial issues concerning the governance of football in Ghana.

“The extension of the GFA presidential term is not an extension of Kurt Okraku’s term; it is from the GFA,” he said.

“In my opinion, we should remove such modifiers from the system. How can you say that an Exco can go for three terms another angle the president can go for two terms? It’s not about Kurt Okraku; whoever feels capable of managing the affairs of the GFA should come forward.”

This amendment would allow a president to serve up to 12 years, mirroring global football governance norms and potentially reshaping the leadership landscape in Ghanaian football.
