Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has urged the Black Starlets to remain confident and fight for qualification ahead of their decisive Group D clash against South Africa at the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Ghana Football Association President addressed the players and technical team via Zoom on Tuesday evening after the team’s final training session, encouraging the squad to believe in themselves despite their difficult start to the tournament.

Ghana currently sit bottom of the group with one point after two matches, but Simeon-Okraku insisted the team still has the quality to progress and compete for a place at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.

“My mission here is to remind all of us that after almost 12 months of preparation, we are at the bottom of the table after two rounds of games. This is not the best situation, but we still have one more game to either stay in the competition or secure a play-off slot,” he told the players.

The GFA President stressed that Ghanaians still believe in the squad despite the setbacks and urged the players to seize the moment against South Africa.

“Just go out there, play well, and win for Ghana,” he added.

The Black Starlets head into Wednesday’s encounter knowing victory could revive their hopes of progressing in the tournament and secure a pathway to World Cup qualification.
