The Football Association has rolled out its Football4Girls programme in the Takoradi Metropolitan area, a grassroots initiative designed to provide girls with a platform to play football, nurture their passion for the game, and align with the objectives of the GFA Women’s Football Strategy.

The event brought together ten schools in the metro: Bedu Addo Methodist Basic School, Takoradi Presby Primary School, Bishop O’Rorke Anglican School, All Saints Anglican School, Woode Methodist School, Korsah Complex School, Bethel Methodist Basic School, Perry Hayford School, Axim Road Primary School, and Bishop Essuah Catholic School.

The programme aimed at raising awareness about girls’ football and closing the gap in female participation at the grassroots level. It also provided a platform for the Football Association to outline the Women’s Football Strategy pathways, helping the girls see the opportunities available to them should they choose careers in football, as players, coaches, referees, administrators, or sports practitioners.

The event combined educational sessions with fun activities, including friendly games that allowed the girls to enjoy the sport, build confidence, and form new friendships.

Speaking at the programme, Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, Head of Women’s Football Development at the GFA, described the initiative as part of a revolution in grassroots women’s football.

The Football4Girls project remains a central pillar of the GFA Women’s Football Strategy, designed to inspire, empower, and expand opportunities for young girls, ensuring that the future of women’s football in Ghana is vibrant and sustainable.
