Henry Asante Twum, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has explained why only one Ghana Premier League player was included in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming March international friendlies.

Head coach Otto Addo named a 26-man squad for matches against Austria and Germany, with Benjamin Asare the sole representative from the domestic league.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Asante Twum stressed that player selection was based on performance data and careful analysis rather than neglect of local talent. He noted that the technical team has been closely monitoring the Ghana Premier League, evaluating players based on statistics, consistency, and versatility before making decisions.

He further explained that competition for places remains high, adding that several Ghanaian players based in Europe were also left out despite their exposure.

The Black Stars will face Austria at the Ernst Happel Stadium on March 27 before taking on Germany in Stuttgart on March 30.

The matches form part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with additional friendlies against Mexico and Wales scheduled later this year.
