The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council has approved its Standard Player Contract (GSPC), a landmark initiative set to take effect from the 2025/26 football season.

The standardised contract aims to streamline player agreements, enhance professionalism and protect the rights of players and clubs across Ghana’s football leagues.

The GSPC, announced by the GFA on July 15, 2025, introduces uniform terms for player contracts, covering key areas such as wages, bonuses, transfer clauses and dispute resolution.

The initiative is designed to curb exploitative practices, ensure fair treatment and align Ghana’s football industry with international best practices.

“This is a game-changer for Ghanaian football. The GSPC will bring transparency and fairness to player-club relations,” the GFA stated in a release.

The GSPC will apply to all professional leagues under the GFA’s jurisdiction including the Ghana Premier League, Division One League and Women’s Premier League.

The GFA plans to roll out workshops and training sessions for clubs and players to ensure a smooth transition before the 2025/26 season begins.

“We’re committed to supporting all stakeholders to understand and implement the GSPC effectively,” Head of Communication, Henry Asante Twum stated.

This development marks a significant step toward modernising Ghanaian football, fostering a more structured and equitable environment for players and clubs alike.

As the 2025/26 season approaches, the GSPC is poised to elevate the standard of professionalism in the nation’s beloved sport.
