The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have disclosed that multiple engagements with Nsoatreman FC to address their concerns were unsuccessful, ultimately leading to the club’s withdrawal from the Ghana Premier League.

Nsoatreman formally notified the GFA of their decision on March 14, 2025, citing security concerns following incidents in matches against Asante Kotoko and FC Samartex 1996. The club expressed fears over player safety, particularly after being attacked on their way to face Samartex, despite having police escort.

The withdrawal follows months of unrest triggered by the tragic killing of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley in February, which resulted in arrests, including that of Nsoatreman owner Ignatius Baffuor Awuah. The league was subsequently suspended for a month to implement security reforms.

The GFA confirmed that they made several attempts to engage Nsoatreman to resolve the matter, but the discussions yielded no positive outcome. With the club’s withdrawal, the FA has activated Article 13(5) of its regulations, awarding three points and three goals to Nsoatreman’s scheduled opponents for the remainder of the season. The case has also been referred to the GFA Prosecutor for further disciplinary proceedings.
