Bologna midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana has sustained a knee injury

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Bologna midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana sustained a knee injury during the Black Stars’ final training session before their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.

The 22-year-old picked up the knock at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Deby Itno in N’Djamena on Wednesday and was ruled out of the match the following day. Ghana took an early lead through Jordan Ayew but conceded a late equaliser to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Medical checks are ongoing to determine the severity of Sulemana’s injury, but the setback has left coach Otto Addo with fewer midfield options ahead of Monday’s crucial match against Mali in Accra.

The youngster has been one of Ghana’s emerging talents, making steady progress in the Serie A and breaking into the national team setup.

His absence could pave the way for newly invited midfielder Kwasi Sibo to make his debut as the Black Stars look to consolidate their lead at the top of Group I.

Ghana currently sits first with 16 points, three ahead of Madagascar and four clear of Mali after seven games.
