The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged Accra Lions and the 2023 Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama SC, with misconduct.

According to official statements released by the FA, Medeama SC failed to allow the GFA’s accredited media partners access to the stadium to telecast the Ghana Premier League game between Medeama and Kotoko at the Tarkwa TNA Park on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

This action hindered the broadcast of the highly anticipated match, disappointing many fans who relied on online schedules to watch the game from home.

As a result, the 2023 GPL champions have been charged with a breach of Section 42(6) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, and have until Wednesday, January 8, 2025, to address the charges made by the GFA.

In a separate incident, Accra Lions were charged with misconduct following comments made on the club’s social media platforms about match officials during their 1-0 loss to Dreams FC at the Tuba Astro Turf on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Posts on Accra Lions’ official Facebook page during the game accused the match officials of poor officiating, describing it as a “huge scandal” and suggesting that the result was influenced by certain “people involved.”

These comments resulted in a charge for breaching Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.

The GFA stated that the club’s social media commentary on the match officials constituted misconduct and brought the name of the game into disrepute.

Accra Lions have also been given until Wednesday, January 8, 2025, to respond to the charges.
