The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Mr Kurt Okraku, has stepped down as WAFU B President, following his recent appointment as 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

In a statement issued by the FA yesterday, he stated that it has become necessary to step down from the role to be fully committed to the challenges that comes with the new appointment.

“Due to my recent assumption to the role of 2nd Vice-President of CAF, coupled with my continuing commitments to my home federation, the Ghana Football Association, it has become clear to me that I would be unable to give my best to all three roles due to the huge workload that these roles place upon me,” it stated.

“In the next few days, I will commence the process of handing over as WAFU Zone B President to a new leader who, I am sure, will continue the good work we have started in the group; including maintaining the peace we are experiencing in the Zone while continuing to work to build unity within the region,” the statement added.

He thanked the staff for the support and job done so far and urged all to continue along this pathway.

Meanwhile, congratulatory messages keep pouring from individuals and organisations on Mr Okraku for his elevation to the corridors of power of African football.

The latest are from the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Adams, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and the Ghana National Association of Match Commissioners (GNAMC).

In a statement issued on Monday, Mr Adams described Okraku’s appointment as a proud moment for Ghana, recognizing it as a testament to his dedication, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to the growth of football both in Ghana and across the African continent.

“Your new role offers Ghana an enhanced voice and a strengthened platform in continental football governance. It inspires a new generation of Ghanaian and African sports leaders to aspire to excellence and global influence.” the statement continue.

“The Ministry acknowledges your visionary initiatives such as the ‘Catch Them Young’ refereeing project, the establishment of zonal football academies, and your dedicated support for grassroots talent identification,” the statement highlighted.

He also pledged the Ministry’s support to the GFA boss as he works with key stakeholders to uplift African football and restore Ghana’s place of prominence within the global football community.

The SWAG statement signed by its president, Kwabena Yeboah, extended heartfelt congratulations to Mr Okraku, lauding Okraku’s unwavering commitment, dedication, and outstanding contributions to the growth and development of football.

“SWAG congratulates Mr Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku on this prestigious appointment as CAF’s Second Vice-President, recognising his dedication, unwavering commitment, and immense contributions to football. His appointment is a source of pride for all Ghanaians,” the statement read.

The GNAMC statement signed by National Secretary, Michael Ntow Ayeh, also praised President Okraku for his remarkable achievement.

“This prestigious recognition is a testament to your unwavering dedication, visionary leadership, and tireless commitment to the advancement of football, not only in Ghana but across the African continent,” the statement read.

“Your elevation to this esteemed position brings immense pride to the Ghanaian football fraternity and highlights the growing influence of Ghanaian football on the continental stage.”
