A German drug dealer has avoided being deported after he claimed he would face ‘very significant obstacles’ in integration.

Saleh Hussein Hamid, 25, was allowed to stay in the UK because he does not speak German well enough, despite being a German citizen.

The drug dealer was jailed for 33 months in September 2022 after he was caught in a police sting.

Hamid, who took orders through his phone, unknowingly dropped off heroin and crack cocaine to an undercover police officer on multiple occasions.

Police tried to pull him over as he drove a Mercedes through Leeds, as he ran three sets of red lights before crashing into a metal post.

Hamid, who was described in court as a ‘ring and bring’ dealer, was eventually detained while on foot with officers, finding £300 in cash and £240 worth of cannabis separated into street deals.

He was convicted on eight counts of supplying Class A and Class B drugs across West Yorkshire.

He also admitted to dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

The Home Office had ruled that Hamid would be sent to Germany following his release from prison.

However, his lawyers appealed the decision under human rights rules ,arguing that Hamid arrived in Britain as a child and was unable to speak German.

It was also claimed that Hamid would be targeted by far-right German groups, with the country being less tolerant of his Muslim faith.

The judge’s ruling over Hamid’s future has now been quashed, with a new one expected next year.
