Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has pledged to revamp the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex in Accra to ensure that the youth within the vicinity who have an interest in sports develop their talents.

The minister said he would ask the facility consultant to conduct an assessment to ascertain the cost factor involved in renovating the place.

According to him, his leadership will collaborate with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to see to the facelift of the facility.

He stated that as unemployment has become a challenge, a key factor to focus on in ending poverty is paying attention to the sports fraternity.

The minister made this known during his ministerial engagement with the National Youth Authority management on January 30, 2025.

“It is unfortunate how we have left the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex to its current state, that we have not paid attention to it.

“These are the things the National Youth Authority will pay attention to. One of the key things we can use to end poverty is sports. We are going to work with the Ministry of Sports to see how we can refurbish this and then put it to work again.

“So, that young people can get a place to train and also express their talents and skills, we will do an assessment to know how much it will require,” he said.
