Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has called for measured expectations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that changes to the Black Stars’ technical team do not automatically guarantee improved results.

His remarks come on the back of the GFA’s announcement of five new additions to the senior national team setup as part of preparations for the global showpiece.

Despite the expanded backroom staff, Afriyie urged supporters to be realistic about the team’s prospects.

“Ghanaians should temper their expectations for the Black Stars at the World Cup,” he told Asempa FM.

“Having more hands on board doesn’t automatically improve the team’s prospects,” he added, cautioning that cohesion, planning and execution will ultimately determine Ghana’s performance on the pitch.

The Black Stars are expected to regroup in March for high-profile international friendlies against Austria and Germany as part of their preparations.

Ghana, making its fifth appearance at the World Cup, have been drawn in a challenging group alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The four-time African champions will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, 2026, before facing England on June 23 and wrapping up the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
