Former Ghana Football Association Vice President, George Afriyie has dismissed reports linking him to the vacant Asante Kotoko SC Chief Executive Officer role, stating clearly that he has not been contacted by the club regarding the position.

His clarification comes just hours after the Manhyia Palace announced a newly constituted Board of Directors for Kotoko, formed by the club’s Life Patron Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to steer the institution through a new phase of restructuring.

The new Board is chaired by James Osei Brown, CEO of Joshob Construction, with Kwasi Osei Ofori, CEO of Rocksure, serving as Vice Chairman. Businessman Kofi Amoa-Abban, founder of Rigworld Group, has also been appointed to the Board as part of the reshaped leadership.

In a recent interview, Afriyie further explained that while he remains open to serving Ghana football in any capacity, claims that he is in talks with Kotoko are inaccurate, stressing that no official approach has been made by the club.

“No doubt, Asante Kotoko is a big club with a rich history, but at the moment, I am not in the race to become the new CEO of the club,” he stated.

“Perhaps there have been conversations somewhere, but as it stands now, no one has spoken to me about becoming the chief executive officer. I have friends there, but nothing has been discussed.”

Meanwhile, the Interim Management Committee, led by Chairman Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, will continue to handle day-to-day operations until the end of the 2025/26 season, working closely with the newly appointed Board to ensure a smooth transition.
