    El sábado se llevó a cabo en Shizuoka, Japón, el combate por el título vacante de la IBF en las 115 libras entre mexicanos. El número 3 de la IBF, Willibaldo García (22-5-2-1NC), 113.75, y el número 4 de la IBF, René Calixto (23-0-1, 9 KOs), 114.25, pelearon hasta un empate dividido en doce emocionantes rounds. Fue una pelea extraña, con García atacando todo el tiempo y Calixto a la defensiva contrarrestando ocasionalmente al agresor menos preciso.

    Los árbitros fueron los siguientes: Tetsuya Iida (Japón) 118-110 para García, Surat Soikrachang (Tailandia) 116-112 para Calixto, Edward Ligas (Filipinas) 114-114. El árbitro fue Koji Tanaka (Japón). El cinturón de la FIB había sido renunciado por el argentino Fernando Martínez, quien se negó a defender su título contra el retador obligatorio de la FIB y decidió responder al desafío del ex campeón Kazuto Ioka en la víspera de Año Nuevo en Tokio.
