The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly refuted a publication circulating in sections of the media which alleges that about 60 percent of applicants who underwent military medical screening were found to be HIV positive.

In a statement issued in response to the publication, the GAF described the claims as fake news and urged the public to disregard them entirely.

According to the Armed Forces, the ongoing medical screening process for applicants has not been concluded and no results have been released or declared at this stage. “As such, any figures or conclusions being attributed to the process are false and misleading.”

“The medical process is ongoing and no results have been declared as at now,” the statement emphasised.

The Ghana Armed Forces further indicated that steps are being taken to identify and trace the originators of what it described as a mischievous and irresponsible publication, noting that the spread of unverified information undermines public trust and institutional integrity.

The statement also served as a caution to media practitioners, particularly content creators, bloggers and vloggers, to exercise restraint and professionalism in their work.

“The GAF urged media actors to verify information from credible and official sources before publishing, stressing the importance of accuracy and responsible journalism, especially on sensitive national matters.

“The Armed Forces reiterated their commitment to transparency and assured the public that official information would be communicated through the appropriate channels when the medical screening process is duly completed.”
