Undisputed female flyweight champion Gabriela Fundora retained her crowns for the third time (seven overall) as she broke down WBA interim champion Viviana Ruiz for a TKO victory.
Fundora put Ruiz on the deck in the fourth round with a counter right hand. Ruiz was partially off balance and seemingly unhurt. “Sweet Poison” went on the attack after stunning Ruiz in the fifth, ending the round by trapping her foe on the ropes.
Fundora would not be denied as she kept up the pressure in the sixth round. Stunning Ruiz with right hands, Fundora drove Ruiz to the ropes and pounded away as referee Ray Corona stepped in, stopping the bout at 1:25.
The champ improves to 18-0 with 10 KOs and retains her undisputed flyweight championship. The 43-year-old Ruiz was very game but drops to 10-3 with 5 KOs.
