A mother has slammed Delta airlines over an uncomfortable international flight after she apparently neglected to buy a seat for her infant.
Mely Skoglund shared a photo on Threads of herself sitting on the floor in front of two economy seats during a long-haul Delta flight.
The mother-of-four, who according to property records lives in Minnesota, crouched down in front of the window and aisle seats as her two young children slept.
’12 hours Flying Delta airlines back to US was sold out, so we have no extra room. This is our situation,’ she captioned the now-viral photo.
It is unclear where Skoglund, 42, was flying or if she had a ticket for both children.
She appears to have purchased an individual ticket for her older child, but it is likely that her baby’s ticket was booked under the airline’s lap child policy, which allows infants or children under two to fly for free or at a reduced rate under the condition that they sit in an adult’s lap during the flight.
Skoglund’s post was met with widespread criticisms online by travelers who argue the airline is not responsible for her alleged ‘lack of planning.’
Others blasted her for assuming that she would be able to commandeer an open seat for free.

‘If you want a seat for the baby… you buy a seat for the baby…? I don’t understand how this is the airline’s fault. Your lack of planning does not constitute a problem for the airline,’ one Threads user wrote.
One user who claimed to be a former flight attendant advised that parents can ‘always buy a ticket for the child, bring a car seat and voila [there is] space for everyone in the family.’
‘I don’t understand what you want. Pity?’ questioned another. ‘You knew you were traveling with your kids. How is it the airline’s fault that they didn’t have enough seats for you and your kids when you didn’t purchase extra seats?
‘I have a kid and I never expect anyone to accommodate to us.’
Others slammed the mom for seemingly taking the cheap way out.
‘You were expecting free room? Really. If you want to fly with a child that needs room buy a seat!’ one user sniped.

‘Just hold them, that’s why you got a ‘children on lap’ ticket. You’re being ridiculous,’ said another.
One added: ‘Maybe you should have bought extra seats for them instrad (sic) expecting a free handout.’
‘While we cannot confirm the authenticity of this photo, we offer that as safety is our top priority, it’s imperative that our customers follow Delta’s policy for traveling with a lap-held infant,’ a Delta spokesperson told The Daily Mail.
‘Additionally, we strongly insist that they remain in their seats with their seatbelts fastened, unless they have a specific need that requires movement about the aircraft.’
