Coachella’s undisputed female flyweight queen Gabriela “Sweet Poison” Fundora took on the challenge of Edmonton, Alberta’s Alexas “Iron Lady” Kubicki. For her part, Kubicki vowed to get inside and stay there against Fundora, but that was easier said than done. Add to that fact that Fundora is a southpaw, and the task was all that much harder.
Kubicki was able to land a hard right in the third, but ate a combination in return which rocked her and left her nose bloodied. By the fifth round, both of Kubicki’s eyes were beginning to swell and discolor, courtesy of the bombardment she was absorbing.
Kubicki’s heart and will were too big for her own health and well-being. In the seventh round she absorbed several more unanswered punches, prompting referee Ray Corona to save Kubicki from herself. The time was 0:43 of the seventh round. Fundora improves to 17-0, 9 KOs. Kubicki falls to 13-2, 2 KOs.
