Once tipped to be one of Ghana’s brightest exports to European football, Aminu Mohammed is back on home soil with a point to prove, and Bechem United believe they’re the club to help him do it.
The 25-year-old forward, who famously caught the eye of Manchester City scouts after lighting up the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup with Ghana, has signed a permanent deal with Bechem ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
Back then, Aminu’s pace, flair and composure in front of goal made him a standout at WAFA, so much so that City were willing to pay around $2 million for his signature, hoping he could grow into their first team.
But like so many young African talents snapped up by Europe’s elite, Aminu’s path wasn’t smooth.
He never broke into City’s senior squad, spending loan spells at Dutch side NAC Breda and Belgium’s Lommel SK, only to see each move end without the breakthrough he needed.
In 2022, Manchester City released him. His last stop was Kozanis in Greece’s lower leagues, a far cry from the Etihad dream he once chased.
Now, the talented winger has returned home, older, battle-tested, and with a chance to restart where it all began: the Ghana Premier League.
Bechem United see Aminu as a statement signing who can inject pace and creativity into their attack as they look to build on last season’s progress.
Aminu has already linked up with the Hunters’ pre-season camp and is expected to be central to their plans under the current technical team.
Fans who remember his dazzling performances for the Black Starlets will hope he can rediscover the confidence and spark that once made him a $2 million teenager on Europe’s radar.
His journey is a reminder of how brutal football’s talent factory can be, but also of how coming home can offer a second chance.
For Aminu Mohammed, Bechem United isn’t just a new club. It’s a fresh start, a shot at redemption, and maybe, finally, the stage to show the world what Ghana first saw in him.
