President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his commitment to the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, assuring Ghanaians that the initiative will remain intact under his leadership.
Addressing concerns about the program’s future, Mahama rejected the NPP’s claims that he intends to abolish the Free SHS policy, describing such statements as “political talk and gimmickry.”
“Free SHS has come to stay, and it is not going anywhere. Nobody is going to scrap Free SHS,” Mahama emphasised during an interview with Voice of America (VOA).
While Mahama reaffirmed his support for the program, he acknowledged its challenges, particularly the need for sustainable funding mechanisms to ensure its long-term success.
“We are going to maintain it. What we will do is secure dedicated funding for it,” he added.
Mahama’s comments come amid ongoing debates about the program’s long-term viability.
