Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Frederick Ansah Botchway has spoken candidly about the club’s decision to part ways with coach Samuel Boadu, describing the move as painful and unexpected, especially considering the success Boadu brought to the team.

Boadu was dismissed just 18 months into his tenure despite guiding Hearts of Oak to their first league title in 11 years and securing five major trophies, including the Ghana Premier League, FA Cup, and Super Cup.

His sacking shocked many fans and observers, and now, one of his former key players has shared how it felt from the inside.

In a heartfelt reflection during an interview with Frank-Kamal Acheampong on GhanaWeb TV’s Sports Check, Botchway praised Boadu’s coaching style and his passionate approach to the game.

“Boadu is a very good coach. He’s a coach that is going to push you on your toes. Sometimes I see people talk about his reactions and sometimes how he voices out. But that is good, that is the determination, that is the spirit that he is trying to put on us on the field. It’s the same as training. Working with him has been very good, and we still keep in touch,” he said.

Botchway, who played a vital role in the club’s domestic treble-winning campaign under Boadu, admitted that the decision to sack the coach left him feeling deeply disappointed.

“It was a decision from the club, but I felt bad. Because I think after achieving that greatness, I think there are better and more days ahead for that coach. Especially when it comes to him and Accra Hearts of Oak. But alongside the way, that was a whole decision from the club.

They decide and they do what, at least, they think will help the club,” he added.

Despite the abrupt end to Boadu’s reign, Botchway remains respectful of the club’s choice, while holding firm in his belief that the coach had much more to offer, particularly to Hearts of Oak.
