Former Ghana Football Association Vice President Fred Pappoe has advised the FA to grant full autonomy to whoever is appointed as the next Black Stars head coach.

The position became vacant following the dismissal of Otto Addo, with the association now racing against time to secure a suitable replacement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Pappoe emphasized that technical decisions should be left entirely in the hands of the incoming coach, insisting that interference could undermine the team’s progress.

“These are very detailed specifics that I think should be left to the coach,” he said. “Whichever coach is appointed must be given the space to operate. The coach understands best the players he needs.”

He further highlighted the need for a coach who can quickly adapt to the Ghanaian football environment and deliver results within a short period.

“He must be a coach who can start quickly, with a deep understanding of the local football culture, the players and the national psyche. I believe that will be the kind of coach I will look out for.”

The Ghana FA is expected to announce a new head coach next week, in line with assurances from Kofi Adams, ahead of upcoming international friendlies against Mexico in May and Wales on June 2.

With several coaches being linked to the job, new names like former West Ham boss Slaven Bilić and two-time ex- Man United assistant Steve McClaren have all been strongly linked to the job

Ghana at the next World Cup, will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England and Croatia in Group L.
