A tragic and horrifying incident has unfolded at Assin Breku in the Central Region, where an alleged internet fraudster, popularly known as a “fraud boy” identified as Asuo, was lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob after he reportedly beheaded a 9-year-old boy.

According to eyewitness accounts, Asuo allegedly chopped off the hands of the young boy after killing him. The incident came to light when a woman reportedly spotted a human hand in a sack the suspect was carrying. Shocked by the discovery, the woman raised an alarm that attracted the attention of residents in the community.

The residents, upon launching a search in the area, found the lifeless body of the boy lying in a pool of blood, missing both hands — confirming suspicions that the boy had been brutally murdered.

The furious mob subsequently stormed the suspect’s home, where they allegedly discovered blood-stained bedsheets and a t-shirt, further fueling their anger. In a fit of rage, the mob attacked, lynched, and set Asuo’s body on fire before the police could intervene.

Police sources indicate that investigations have been launched into both the murder of the young boy and the mob action that followed.

While the community’s anger and grief are understandable given the gruesome nature of the act, legal experts have cautioned that mob justice remains a criminal offense under Ghanaian law. Those involved in the lynching could face life imprisonment if found guilty.

The bodies of both the suspect and the victim have reportedly been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.

Authorities are urging residents to allow the police to handle criminal cases and to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, no matter the provocation.
