Belgian player of Ghanaian descent, Francis Amuzu, has stated that he is expecting a call-up to join the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

He disclosed that his parents moved to Belgium when he was an infant, and although he has lived most of his life there, he still feels connected to his roots.

Sharing his journey from Ghana to Belgium, he said, “I came to Belgium when I was two years old. My father played for a team in Ghana and later moved to Belgium with my mother and sister. I play football because it is in my father’s blood, and he passed it on to me.”

The Grêmio attacker noted that his heart leans toward Ghana, and he is ready to play for the national team if called upon by the technical team.

Amuzu congratulated the team for securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup and said he hopes to be part of the squad for the tournament.

“For me, I am a Ghanaian. I was born in Ghana, so I am happy they have qualified for the World Cup. It is a wonderful tournament, one of the biggest in the world so I’m happy for them. To be honest, my heart is really with Ghana, so if Ghana calls, I will definitely go. I hope they can call me. But for now, my focus is here at Grêmio. Let’s see what happens,” he said in a viral interview shared on X.

It is worth noting that Amuzu previously declined the opportunity to play for the national team and chose to represent Belgium.

He joins a growing list of foreign-born players with Ghanaian roots who are openly expressing interest in joining the Black Stars following the team’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
