On Saturday, December 7, 2024, historic presidential and legislative elections will take place, as the polls and prophets have both foreseen. Minor political parties have announced their support for one of the two front-runners, adding a last twist to the intrigue. Who will be the winner? The following four political parties have supported either Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP or John Dramani Mahama of the NDC:

The UFP declared its support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), on September 18, 2024. Party founder Nana Agyenim Boateng, often known as “Gyataba,” praised the NPP’s track record on development projects during a news conference in Kumasi, claiming it outperforms the Mahama administration.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) and John Dramani Mahama received official support from the PNC. Following Bernard Mornah, the PNC’s presidential candidate, was disqualified by the Electoral Commission due to errors in his candidacy paperwork, this decision was made. During a news conference on November 27, 2024, PNC Chairman Sampson Asaki Awingobit clarified that the choice was made after a careful analysis of each candidate’s platform.

On October 21, 2024, the Action Alliance Party endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, just 19 days after the Electoral Commission had registered the party. Namuru Tahiru, the founder and chairman of the party, clarified that the NPP’s vision for economic change is in line with the AAP’s policies.

On December 4, 2024, the GFP made a dramatic last-minute endorsement of John Dramani Mahama. The NDC’s “Women Development Bank” and “No Fee Stress” policies were cited by Deputy Secretary Jerry Offei Addo as major motivators for their decision, which was made following lengthy consultations. This comes after Madam Akua Donkor passed away and the Electoral Commission disqualified their candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi. These endorsements could influence the pivotal presidential election in Ghana as it draws closer.
