Ghana will have strong representation at the upcoming 2025 CAF Awards, with four Black Queens figures earning nominations across major categories following an impressive year for the women’s national team.

Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has been shortlisted for the Women’s Coach of the Year award after guiding Ghana to a bronze medal at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Despite taking charge in 2025, the Swedish tactician quickly transformed the Queens into one of the continent’s most competitive sides, narrowly missing out on a place in the final after losing on penalties.

Björkegren faces stiff competition from Nigeria’s Justine Madugu and Bankole Olowookere, Morocco’s Jorge Vilda, and South Africa’s Desiree Ellis, among others.

In the goalkeeping category, Cynthia Konlan Findib earned a spot among Africa’s top ten for Goalkeeper of the Year.

The 22-year-old Al Hilal Women’s shot-stopper was instrumental in Ghana’s bronze finish, producing heroic saves in the third-place playoff against South Africa.

She will contend with Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, South Africa’s Andile Dlamini, and Algeria’s Chloé N’gazi, among others.

Rising star Stella Nyamekye also made the shortlist for Young Player of the Year. The 20-year-old Fort Lauderdale United midfielder was one of Ghana’s standout performers at WAFCON, scoring once and providing an assist in four appearances.

Meanwhile, veteran captain Portia Boakye capped her stellar campaign with a nomination for Women’s Player of the Year. The 36-year-old defender led by example, guiding the Black Queens to their first WAFCON podium finish in seven years and earning a spot in the Team of the Tournament.

CAF is expected to announce the final shortlist and awards gala date in the coming weeks.
