The former Municipal Chief Executive for Tano South in the Ahafo Region, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi has proposed significant reform initiatives aimed at restructuring the New Patriotic Party to enhance efficiency, transparency, and inclusivity.

These proposals address key operational and structural challenges within the party, emphasizing the need for a modernized approach to governance and grassroots mobilization.

The NPP’s resounding defeat in the 2024 general elections has sparked intense discussion on the causes behind their misfortunes.

However, Collins Offinam Takyi has proposed opening up the party’s electoral college to allow card-bearing members to participate in internal elections, fostering inclusivity and strengthening grassroots unity within the party.

The former MCE further advocated for the inclusion of all card-bearing members in decision-making processes, including the election of Constituency, Regional, and National executives, as well as Parliamentary candidates in their respective Constituencies.

Speaking on Sunyani-based Ark FM on Sunday, Mr. Takyi expressed confidence that addressing concerns about monetization, which has plagued internal NPP elections, would become a thing of the past.

According to Collins Offinam Takyi, poor communication was the most critical factor contributing to the party’s downfall.

This failure extended beyond verbal communication to non-verbal cues, participatory communication, community engagement, and stakeholder involvement.

He told the host of the Issues Political Show that the Party’s communicators failed to effectively communicate the achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

Collins Offinnam Takyi noted that even as a serving MCE, he was unaware of the numerous key projects initiated by his government across the country due to poor communication.

He observed that the construction of courts, education infrastructure, and roads under the Akufo-Addo-led administration was unmatched, but the party failed to effectively communicate these achievements to Ghanaians.

The former Municipal Chief Executive stated that economic hardship predicted the NPP defeat in the general elections, which didn’t come as a surprise.

He acknowledged that they take full responsibility for the defeat, as they were in charge of the country’s economic affairs.

When asked about his political career henceforth, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi hinted at joining the NPP communication team to help the party communicate effectively with Ghanaians and recapture power in 2028.

He believes it’s premature for the NPP party to focus on contesting internal positions, emphasizing instead the need to prioritize restructuring to strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 general election.
