Justice Nasiru Sulemana Gbadegbe, a former judge of Ghana’s apex court, the Supreme Court, is reportedly dead.

According to a report by 3news.com, the retired judge passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, after a short illness.

He was 74 years old at the time of his death.

    About Justice Sule Gbadegbe:

Nasiru Sulemana Gbadegbe served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana from 2009 to 2020.

Gbadegbe hailed from the Volta Region of Ghana. He was born on December 8, 1950. He obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in 1973 from the University of Ghana and subsequently received his Qualifying Certificate in Law from the Ghana School of Law in 1975.

Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2009, Gbadegbe had served on the Ghanaian bench for 20 years. He was appointed a Justice of the High Court in 1989 and served in that capacity for a decade.

In 1999, he was elevated to the Court of Appeal, where he remained until 2009, when he was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court.

Gbadegbe was nominated for the position in 2009 by then-President John Evans Atta Mills. He was vetted on Monday, October 12, 2009, and was approved unanimously by Parliament on October 30 of that year.

He was sworn into office by the then-President on November 2, 2009.

Gbadegbe retired from the Supreme Court in December 2020, after delivering his valedictory judgment following 31 years of service in the judiciary.
