Ghanaian politician and Chairman of Nsoatreman FC, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has been arrested by the Bono Regional Police Headquarters following the death of a popular supporter of Asante Kotoko, Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.
Awuah, a former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, and former Member of Parliament of Sunyani West Constituency, faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
He is also accused of inciting fans, a factor believed to have fueled the fatal violence, according to reports by Nhyira FM.
Pooley lost his life after being fatally stabbed when chaos erupted during the Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Asante Kotoko on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
A confrontation between players from both teams escalated into a massive brawl in the stands as home and away fans clashed.
In response, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended the use of Nana Konamansah Park for Nsoatreman’s matches and has also halted the league while investigations continue.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor has been assigned to lead the inquiry into the incident.
