Former Environment Minister Demands Overhaul of NPP Leadership

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, ex-Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, has demanded a major restructuring of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging the removal of what he calls “corrupt influences” within its leadership.

He argued that the current party executives should resign, blaming their poor decision-making for the NPP’s embarrassing loss in the 2024 elections. According to him, only a fresh leadership team can rebuild trust among party supporters and the general public.

Speaking to Nhyira FM in Kumasi, Frimpong-Boateng stated, “The entire leadership must step down for steering the party to such a disastrous defeat. If these destructive forces remain in power, the NPP will keep failing.”

He also criticized former President Nana Akufo-Addo, accusing him of ignoring counsel and dismissing opposing views. “Akufo-Addo refused to listen to my advice, which could have improved the country’s direction. His leadership was a letdown. Many capable and patriotic individuals in the NPP were marginalized under his administration,” he lamented.

Additionally, Frimpong-Boateng called on politicians to prioritize strengthening Ghana’s workforce, emphasizing that skilled human resources are essential for increasing productivity and expanding exports—rather than just focusing on domestic revenue generation.

He stressed that good governance requires practical thinking and eliminating corruption. “Effective leadership is simply common sense without corruption. A nation cannot thrive by hoarding wealth; it must develop its people to drive exports and sustainable growth,” he concluded.
