Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare has completed a move to South African top-flight side Durban City FC following the expiration of his contract with the Porcupine Warriors.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal with an option to extend for a further two years.

His move comes as part of sweeping changes at Kotoko, who have released several players after a disappointing 2024/25 season.

Asare joined Kotoko from Accra Lions in 2022 and enjoyed notable moments during his time in Kumasi, including winning the MTN FA Cup in 2025. His consistent performances also earned him a call-up to the Black Stars, underlining his growth as a top-tier goalkeeper.

He is now set to begin a new chapter in South Africa’s Betway Premiership, with reports indicating he is relishing the opportunity to prove himself in one of Africa’s most competitive leagues.
