The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has indicated that former Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu will soon be taken to court over investigations into the procurement of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccines and the COVID Frontier matter.

He explained that claims that no action has been taken against the former minister are not accurate.

Speaking in an interview on Joy news, Mr Kwakye Ofosu noted that the former minister has already been arrested and questioned by investigators from the National Intelligence Bureau.

He disclosed that the former minister was arrested some months ago and later released after cooperating with investigators.

According to him, two separate dockets have been prepared against Mr Agyeman-Manu in relation to the Sputnik V vaccine procurement and the COVID Frontier case.

“He was arrested and interrogated. He wrote a caution statement and investigations have been completed. Two dockets have been prepared in respect of him,” he explained.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu further indicated that the Office of the Attorney General is currently preparing charges and the former minister will be arraigned before court in the coming weeks.

He noted that the charges are expected to include offences such as causing financial loss to the state and breaches of the country’s procurement laws.

The minister added that although Mr Agyeman-Manu is currently not in custody, the appropriate security agencies are handling the matter.

“It is not true that he has not been touched and is walking free. He has been dealt with by the appropriate security agencies and will be taken to court soon,” he stated.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu explained that in many cases, suspects who are under investigation or even standing trial are granted bail unless there are exceptional circumstances that require them to remain in custody.
