Former Hearts of Oak defender Dan Quaye has refused to blame Ghana coach Otto Addo for the stalemate against Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars have come under intense pressure after failing to snatch maximum points against Chad on Thursday. Ghana could not secure a back-to-back win over their opponents, having thrashed them at the Accra Sports Stadium earlier this year.

Ghana were two minutes away from securing a crucial away victory before the hosts struck through Ecua Celestin to cancel Jordan Ayew’s first-half goal.

Speaking to Bryt FM, Dan Quaye declined to blame Otto Addo, instead expressing disappointment in the players for their poor showing.

“No one should blame the coach because he’s done nothing wrong. Honestly, the players were poor against Chad. Defensively, we were not good at all. The players should give us a break. We’ve seen great players in the Black Stars. Ghana is bigger than these players, they should wake up,” he said.

“I will blame the defenders for the equaliser. They were just sleeping on duty. It’s time for us to bank our hopes on the local players. Razak Simpson is a top defender and could have done us good against Chad. He could have prevented the Chadians from grabbing this equaliser,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have arrived in Ghana ahead of the crucial game against Mali, scheduled for Monday, September 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Currently, the West African football heavyweights sit top of Group I, accumulating 16 points after seven matches, followed by Madagascar (13 points), Mali (12), Comoros (12), the Central African Republic (5), and Chad with just a point.

The Black Stars will finalise their 2026 World Cup qualification with games against the Central African Republic and Comoros in October 2025.
