Tragedy has struck Swiss football club FC Granges-Paccot as they mourn the loss of 24-year-old player Jakov Jelkic, whose body was discovered after he went missing in Alicante, Spain.

Jelkic had been in the city with his teammates for a tournament.

According to reports, Jelkic was last seen leaving a bar during a night out before he allegedly fell into the sea.

When he failed to return to his hotel, staff alerted authorities, and his family launched a social media appeal to find him.

Tragically, police have confirmed that Jelkic’s body was recovered from the waters of Alicante port, in the early hours of Tuesday, February 4, 2025, with preliminary investigations suggesting an accidental death.

His club have since released a heartfelt statement paying tribute to the young player.

    FC Granges-Paccot posted on Instagram:

“It is with great sadness that we learned of Jakov’s passing. All our thoughts go to his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who knew him, whether closely or from afar. His memory will remain forever engraved in our hearts. A friend, a teammate, an inspiration to us all. Rest in peace.”

Jelkic had scored one goal for the club this season.
