Some Ghanaian football supporters have expressed disappointment in Asante Kotoko over their decision to dismiss head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum at a time when the team is competing for the Ghana Premier League title.

On April 21, 2025, Kotoko released a statement announcing that they had parted ways with Ogum following a critical analysis of his performance with the team.

“Asante Kotoko Sporting Club has, this afternoon, parted company with head coach Dr Prosper Narteh Ogum.

“This decision was reached following constructive discussions between both parties, with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time,” the statement read.

The former WAFA gaffer exits after two seasons, having returned for a second stint with the Porcupine Warriors.

The team, which had led the Ghana Premier League table at some point, has now slipped to fourth place, having managed only two wins in their last nine games.

Despite these concerns, some football fans believe the decision was taken in haste, considering the timing, with the season almost ending soon.

Others also argued that despite the poor run of form in recent matches, Kotoko are still lying fourth on the table with 47 points, just six points behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars, which they could have won if the coach was maintained.

Some fans also fumed that the dismissal could exacerbate the woes of the club as the season heads to its conclusion.

Currently, Asante Kotoko sit on 47 points, trailing league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars by six points with six matches remaining in the season.

Despite their inconsistency in the league, the club remains in the hunt for silverware, with a place in the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup keeping hopes of a domestic double alive.

    Read the reactions below:

I agree Kotoko has been on a bad patch, but to sack Ogum Narteh with just six games to end the season is hasty. Unless there’s a bigger picture, we are yet to see.

    Like seriously?

it’s not hasty but rather almost too late to sack a coach at this point in a league title race, what is the next coach going to do better for kotoko to clinch the league title, they might as well lose the FA cup as well, it’s a rushed decision, i agree with you now 😂.

How many games to end the season? Why the rush….. who are those in taking such decisions
