After the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), broadcast journalist and media figure Nana Aba Anamoah took to social media to make fun of Kurt Okraku, the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Before the qualification campaign, Anamoah made a light-hearted remark on Okraku’s prior motivating speech in a post on X (previously Twitter), writing, “The motivational speech Kurt go deliver the last time no, it turn beans.”

The Ghanaian idiom “turn beans” refers to a circumstance in which promises or expectations do not come to pass, much as when something breaks down or does not live up to the hype.

Many supporters and sports commentators are disappointed that the Black Stars were unable to guarantee a place in the coveted competition.

The national team’s failure to qualify has been heavily criticised from a number of sources, with many citing a lack of tactical discipline and team cohesion as major contributing causes.

This is in spite of Okraku’s assurances and public pronouncements regarding the team’s growth.
