Citing the recent detention of social media entrepreneur Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, as part of a larger enforcement campaign, Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations Samuel Nartey George has hinted at other arrests connected to cyber-enabled financial crimes.

Sam George revealed in public that the Cyber Security Authority had apprehended a person who appeared to be leading an obviously prosperous life. He warned that looks can conceal illegal behavior and questioned the validity of such wealth.

One of my organizations, the Cyber Security Authority, took up a person who is expected to succeed only yesterday. More arrests are on the horizon, he added. “There’s no peace with that kind of success.” “We’re picking up three more in the coming days.”

The minister’s comments follow the confirmation by US authorities of Abu Trica’s indictment on wire fraud and identity theft charges. On December 11, 2025, the Ghanaian national was taken into custody in Accra after local security services and US law enforcement collaborated.

Abu Trica is accused of taking part in a worldwide cybercrime network that reportedly employed digital fraud schemes to attack people and institutions, according to court documents. Because of his well-known social media presence and apparent riches, the accusations have received a lot of attention.

Sam George’s remarks indicate that government authorities will take a more aggressive stance against cybercrime, especially when it involves popular figures whose lifestyles raise suspicions. The most recent arrests, according to officials, are a part of a continuous campaign to dismantle the networks responsible for digital identity crimes, money laundering, and online fraud.

The minister reaffirmed the government’s determination to rebuild public trust in Ghana’s digital space by emphasizing that investigations are still ongoing and threatening to arrest other people involved in similar crimes.
