The Presidential aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has promised that his government when voted into office will introduce a housing programme for fixed-income earners.
He said workers who have a few years to retire will have the opportunity to pay for houses of their choice at low interest rates till they retire.
According to Mahama, the workers will choose which locations they would want to build their houses to be situated at.
Speaking at a community engagement at Fumbisi, he said: “Government workers or anybody who works in the formal sector, we are introducing a housing program for you. So, if you are working and you have an income and you have at least 15 to 20 years of your working life left, we will give you the design of a house in cedis not in dollars.

“The house will be built and we will deduct it from your salary, month after month for 15 years or 20 years, till you finish paying for it. So, teachers, daughters, nurses, anyone that has a fixed income you can benefit from this programme. You can either build it in your hometown or where you are working so that you don’t have to pay rent. You will pay in cedis not in dollars at a low interest rate,” he said.
