It has been five years since Ghana witnessed one of the most-talked-about award scandal in the country’s entertainment history, the infamous ‘Global Blueprint Excellence Awards’ organised by Kwame Owusu Fordjour, popular known as “Dr UN.”

In September 2020, the event pulled some of the biggest names in music, media, and academia, including rapper Sarkodie, musician and businessman D-Black, and even the then Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana.

    ‘I had a mental break-down but told no one’ – D-Black reveals

All of them walked away that night with what they believed were prestigious international awards. But in a matter of days, the truth came out, the entire scheme was a scam.

What was packaged as an honour backed by the United Nations turned out to be fake.

The revelation shook the nation. For weeks, memes, jokes, and endless trolling of the popular victims who had unknowingly participated flooded social media.

Check out why D-Black has been trending on social media

D-Black, in particular, became one of the most talked-about figures from the scandal after photos of him receiving his award and posing with his “honorary necklace” went viral.

Now, five years later, the rapper is looking back with humour.

On August 29, 2025, he responded to a post on X where a user reshared one of the old photos of him with his award.

D-Black admitted that he still gets flashbacks whenever he sees the suit he wore that night.

“The jacket sef I no want see again. E de give me flashback for the wardrobe inside,” he wrote.

He went on to laugh about the necklace he was made to wear during the ceremony, which he now recognizes as one of the most ridiculous parts of the whole experience.

“See some necklace e make dem put for my neck say Honorary award. Me too I accept am wear am. Ei Jesus,” he added.
