January 20, 2026, marks the passing of the legendary Yaw Sarpong, barely a month after the passing of his close friend and colleague Maame Tiwaa.

Inside the life and legacy of late Ghanaian gospel music icon Yaw Sarpong

The passing of the two has left a hole in the hearts of many music lovers, but their impact will not be forgotten.

As we celebrate this gospel legend, here is a look at five evergreen songs by Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo that remain as powerful today as when they were released:

    1. Wo Haw Ne Sεn

A moving and reflective classic that addresses life’s trials and emotional burdens. The song reassures listeners that God is fully aware of their struggles and will intervene at the right time.

Released in 2018, ‘Wo Haw Ne Sεn’ has become a favourite at funerals and solemn gatherings, offering comfort and hope in moments of grief.

    2. El Shaddai

Released in 2022, this uplifting worship anthem proclaims divine deliverance and restoration.

Featuring the gentle and soothing vocals of Maame Tiwaa, the song celebrates God’s power to end suffering and usher believers into a season of joy and thanksgiving. It is widely used during praise and thanksgiving sessions.

    3. Tenabea Foforo

Translated as “A New Abode,” this joyful song is a declaration of gratitude, progress, and divine favour.

Released in 2017, it encourages believers to trust God for new beginnings and better opportunities. Its celebratory tone has made it a popular choice at weddings, dedications, and thanksgiving ceremonies.

    4. Dua Esi Asubonten Ho

Also released in 2017, this inspirational track centres on divine protection, longevity, and unwavering faith in God.

The song is further enriched by Maame Tiwaa’s personal testimony of salvation, adding a deeply transformative layer to its message of trust and preservation.

    5. Honhom Kronkron

Opening with Maame Tiwaa’s heartfelt vocals, Honhom Kronkron* is a prayerful appeal for guidance from the Holy Spirit.
