Hearts picked up a crucial win against Dreams FC Hearts picked up a crucial win against Dreams FC

The second round of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League served up drama, goals, and a fair share of talking points.

From big clubs shaking off early jitters to debutants making loud statements, here are five things GhanaWeb learned from Matchday 2.

    1. Hearts of Oak finally got going

The Phobians shook off their opening-day frustration with a much-needed 1–0 victory over Dreams FC. Mohammed Hussein’s 14th-minute strike was enough to hand them their first win of the campaign.

For a side desperate to prove themselves after last season’s struggles, this result calms early nerves and offers their fans a glimmer of hope that the rebuild is on course.

    2. Medeama are sending a strong message

The 2023 champions look like a team on a mission. Medeama crushed Vision FC 4–0, making it two wins from two and highlighting their ruthless edge. With six goals scored and none conceded so far, they have already set a frightening tone for the rest of the league; a statement that they want the crown back.

    3. Heart of Lions roar again

Heart of Lions followed up their opening-day win with a dominant 4–1 away victory over Eleven Wonders. Six points from two matches, and scoring freely, they look like genuine contenders at the top end of the table.

Their sharp attack and solid midfield organization are early hallmarks of a team that could push for more than what they did last season.

    4. Swedru All Blacks make a statement

Back in the Premier League after years in the wilderness, Swedru All Blacks showed they belong, with a commanding 3–0 win over Berekum Chelsea. They had earlier, on Match Day one, fallen to Nations FC.

For a newly-promoted side, this was more than three points: it was a declaration that they won’t be in the GPL just to make up the numbers. Their confidence and intensity already mark them as a team worth watching.

    5. Discipline issues off the pitch

Even as the football delivered excitement, administrative lapses made headlines.

Several clubs, including Eleven Wonders, Nations FC, and Young Apostles, were charged by the Ghana Football Association for breaches ranging from pre-match briefing violations to improper conduct.
