In a heartening trend, several Ghanaian celebrities have diversified their portfolios by investing in the education sector, yielding impressive returns.

Education has become a preferred area for some Ghanaian celebrities to invest their resources, and many have established schools across the country that are competing favorably in their communities.

Among these stars are Maame Dokono, retired football star Sammy Kuffour, actress Yvonne Nelson, Nii Odartey Lamptey, and actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win.

Entertainment figures worldwide often venture into various businesses as a form of investment and side hustle, and Ghana is no different. Many stars have invested in a range of sectors, from cosmetics and beauty to construction.

However, one area that has seen a significant increase in investments from Ghanaian celebrities is education. A number of them have recently founded schools that are thriving.

Here’s a look at five stars who have established successful educational institutions:

    Yvonne Nelson:

The actress, renowned for her captivating performances on screen, has successfully established a reputable educational institution called “Just Like Mama School.”

This early childhood school, located in East Legon Hills, admits children from the ages of three months to six years. Since its opening in 2018, the school has gained recognition for its commitment to providing quality education.

Notably, Island Frimpong, the daughter of Medikal and Fella Makafui, is one of the school’s pupils. Additionally, actress Real Warri’s child visited and praised the school’s facilities. Majid Michel was also taken aback after visiting the school.

    Kwadwo Nkansah (Lil Win):

The comedian, Kumawood actor, and singer ventured into the education sector by opening “Great Minds International School” in September 2018. Located in Ahenkro near Offinso in the Ashanti Region, the school offers a range of academic programs from preschool to junior high school.

Over the past seven years, the school has grown significantly, with its first batch of Junior High School (JHS) graduates recently taking their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

    Sammy Osei Kuffour:

The former Black Stars defender has established “Godiva International School” in East Legon, named after his late daughter, Godiva, who tragically drowned in a swimming pool in 2023 at just 15 months old.

The school provides a comprehensive education, offering both the Ghana Education Service and Cambridge curricula. Kuffour is known for his dedication to nurturing young minds and has led charitable initiatives, including donations to Dzorwulu Special School alongside his pupils and staff.

    Maame Dokono (Grace Omaboe):

A veteran actress, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Maame Dokono has had a remarkable career in the Ghanaian entertainment industry. She runs “Graceful Grace School,” which evolved from a foster home she previously operated, called Peace and Love Orphanage. Although the orphanage was closed under controversial circumstances in 2009, she transformed its functions into a private basic school, earning recognition for her commitment to quality education.

    Nii Odartey Lamptey:

The former Black Stars footballer and Aston Villa forward established “Glow-lamp International School” in 2004, located on Spintex Road in Accra.

The school has developed into a prestigious institution that provides a supportive learning environment for students to thrive. Lamptey’s educational investment also became a notable part of his personal life, especially during his infamous divorce, where his ex-wife, Gloria Lamptey, who was acting as the school’s proprietress, sought to claim a 50% share of the school but was denied by the court.

In summary, these Ghanaian stars are making significant contributions to the education sector while building successful ventures.

Their investments exemplify the power of celebrity influence in driving positive change, benefiting not only their careers but also uplifting their communities and the next generation.
