In a strong demonstration of compassion and leadership, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Akatsi South, Rt Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, in collaboration with the newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Daniel Dagba, has commenced the distribution of some relief items to victims of the recent windstorm that devastated several communities within the Akatsi South Municipality on Friday.

Following the distribution of the roofing sheets on Friday, the MP himself toured some of the most affected communities on Saturday, accompanied by his entourage, to commiserate with the victims and witness the impact firsthand. His personal engagement brought comfort to many, reaffirming his dedication to the people he serves.

Despite being abroad when the disaster struck, Rt Hon. Ahiafor made an early return to Ghana to be physically present with his constituents. Deeply moved by the destruction, he announced an initial donation of roofing sheets to assist families in rebuilding their homes.

The relief operation began with a comprehensive assessment of the affected areas, conducted by a high-profile delegation that included Hon. Mawuli Ocloo Egos, Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO); Mr. Anthony Kwadzo Owusu, the NDC Constituency Chairman popularly known as WESTFALIA; party executives; and Assembly Members. The team’s mission was to evaluate the extent of the damage, offer comfort to the victims, and begin the process of distributing essential relief materials.

“Though I was far away physically, my heart remained with you. I am here today not just as your MP, but as your brother. We will rebuild together,” Rt Hon. Ahiafor said during his visit—words that resonated deeply with the affected residents.

He further disclosed that his office had officially requested additional support from NADMO and assured the communities that more relief items were on the way. While meeting with Assembly Members at the residence of the Constituency Chairman, he emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and collaboration in restoring normalcy to the region.

Hon. Daniel Dagba, making his first major public appearance since his confirmation as MCE, was widely commended for his hands-on involvement and partnership with the MP. His engagement highlighted a promising start to what many described as a responsive and community-driven administration.

The day’s activities also included a visit to the Akatsi South Municipal Hospital, where Rt Hon. Ahiafor interacted with medical staff and reiterated his commitment to improving the health infrastructure. He also announced the imminent rollout of an electrification project aimed at completing stalled initiatives in communities such as Alorkpa, Asadame, Ablorkpo, and Kpevenu.

    Members of the delegation included:

Rt Hon. Bernard Ahiafor – MP, Akatsi South & First Deputy Speaker of Parliament

Hon. Daniel Dagba – Municipal Chief Executive

Hon. Mawuli Ocloo Egos – NADMO Director

Mr. Anthony Kwadzo Owusu (WESTFALIA) – Constituency Chairman

Hon. Sullemana Seidu – Constituency Organizer

    Mr. John Amekuedi (NAZY)

    Hon. Francis Dotsey Bedzo

    Madam Salumay Adama

    Mr. Isaac Kofi Ativor

    Mr. Selassie Ackuaku

    Mr. Daniel Gidi

    Hon. Wisdom Akpabli

    Hon. Ahiable Kofi Raphael

    Hon. Japhet Festus Gbede

Other Assembly Members from across the Municipality

The prompt and coordinated response to the disaster has provided critical relief and reaffirmed the commitment of the MP and MCE to the well-being and progress of Akatsi South. Their empathy, teamwork, and decisive action continue to inspire hope and confidence among the people they serve.
