The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and SIC Life Insurance Ltd (SIC Life) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide an insurance service for Fire Officers. The signing ceremony marked a significant milestone in the history of the two institutions.

The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, commended the Chief Fire Officer, Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong—the first female to hold the position—for her outstanding work and dedication to the Service. He also expressed gratitude to President Mahama for his support and vision for the security sector.

The MoU establishes a Welfare Fund for Fire Officers, which will be funded by the total annual premium received from GNFS. This initiative is expected to provide much-needed support to retired service officers and their families.

Alhaji Mubarak emphasised the high risks faced by fire officers in the line of duty and stressed the importance of providing them with insurance cover to support and encourage them to continue serving the nation with courage and dedication.

The Chief Fire Officer expressed her gratitude to SIC for the collaboration and assured that she would do everything possible to ensure the success of the insurance scheme. The Managing Director of SIC, Mr. Solomon Twum Barimah, thanked the Minister for the initiative and noted that the insurance package would cover critical illnesses.

The insurance scheme is expected to benefit all staff of GNFS, and SIC Life will engage with staff to educate them on the scheme and its benefits. Additionally, the GNFS will set up a welfare fund to support retired officers, which will be administered by the Chief Fire Officer.

This MoU is a testament to the government’s commitment to protecting and supporting its security personnel and is expected to strengthen the relationship between the GNFS and SIC Life.
