The Ghana National Fire Service has expressed concerns about receiving over 500 misdirected calls daily.

These calls include requests for airtime and disturbing propositions, such as men masturbating while speaking to female call centre agents.

According to ADO1 Alex King Nartey, Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service, these unnecessary calls hinder the service’s ability to respond to genuine emergencies.

In an interview with Angel TV, Nartey stated, “We receive approximately 500 prank calls daily. Some callers request airtime, while others complain about non-emergency issues, such as domestic disputes.

“Shockingly, some individuals engage in inappropriate behaviour, including masturbation, upon hearing the voices of our female call centre staff. Due to these prank calls, we sometimes miss attending to serious emergencies.”

To address the issue, the Fire Service is collaborating with National Security to track down and punish offenders, serving as a deterrent to others.

Nartey added, “We are working with National Security to trace and take action against certain phone numbers we have identified. This will serve as a deterrent to others who misuse our emergency lines.”
