Fire has destroyed about sixty acres of coca and cashew farms at Asueyi, a farming community in the Techiman North District of the Bono East Region denying affecting the livelihoods of 35 farmers.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) gathered that the outbreak happened on Friday January 30, 2026, and unconfirmed reports attributed the cause of the inferno to activities of hunters.
Mohammed Adamu, the Techiman North District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) visited the farms to assess the level of destruction and told the GNA that the organisation was preparing some relief items for the affected farmers.
He said the farmers would be supported to re-plant and restore their farms to sustain their socio-economic livelihoods.
Adamu said fire volunteers had intensified public sensitization on bush fire prevention and warned hunters and palm wine tappers against setting fires in the harmattan, saying offenders would be prosecuted.
He called on chiefs, queens, opinions and community leaders as well as assembly members to enact and enforce byelaws on bush burning for environmental sustainability.
