The National Sports Authority (NSA) is set to receive clearance from the Ministry of Finance to begin a major recruitment exercise aimed at addressing significant staff shortages across the country.

The planned recruitment is expected to fill more than 450 vacant positions within the authority, which oversees the development and promotion of sports as well as the management of national sporting facilities in Ghana. Once approval is granted, the vacancies will be officially announced to enable the authority to strengthen its workforce.

The NSA was established under the Sports Act 2016 (Act 934) to coordinate sports development and provide technical support to national sports associations and federations in line with government policies.

Key departments affected by the staff shortages include technical field officers such as coaches, grassroots sports development officers and researchers, as well as the estates, security, IT and marketing units.

Meanwhile, recent discussions have surrounded the recruitment of 17 personnel by the authority. The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has directed the individuals to reapply through the Public Services Commission to regularize their employment.

Under Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the NSA says it has also made progress in recovering misappropriated assets and improving sports administration.
