The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is officially seated in state for the first day of the four-day final funeral rites of the late Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, the 14th Asantehemaa and elder sister of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, died on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98.

Her passing was formally announced by the Asantehene during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on August 11, 2025.

She succeeded her mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, in 2017 after a 39-year reign, serving as a key advisor and custodian of Ashanti traditions for eight years.

The one-week observance was held on August 21, 2025, with the final funeral rites ongoing from September 14 to 18, 2025, at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

According to the official schedule by the planning committee, the Asantehemaa will be laid in state at Manhyia Palace, where the public and various dignitaries will file past her body.

The funeral will also see the Asantehene sitting in state to receive homage and condolences from people from all walks of life.

The funeral will conclude on Thursday, when the Queen Mother will be interred at the Bantama Royal Mausoleum.
